Engineering Past the Illusion of “Instant”
It starts the same way every time. A WhatsApp message, usually past 10 pm. “Send me something, I need it by morning.” You open your phone, find a provider, and wait, staring at a spinner, hoping it goes through. For millions of Africans in the diaspora, that moment of anxiety is the product. We built Yousend to end it.
For decades, the remittance experience for African immigrants has been characterized by long-standing frustrations: high fees, hidden FX margins, and slow settlement times. Traditional players have continuously cycled through launches and service failures, particularly around weekend and off-hours settlement. When you are sending money home to friends, family, or for personal projects, it is one of the most important things you do. Choosing a remittance provider means placing real trust in them. Our job at Yousend is to honor that trust every single time and to be there when it matters most.
That is why we set out to build something dependable. Here is the engineering infrastructure that makes it happen.
The Stablecoin Engine: Replacing the Legacy Treasury
Yousend has been years in the making. The founders first registered the domain in 2021, convinced that real-time stablecoin settlement could replace the prefunded float and fragmented treasury operations that have made cross-border remittance slow and expensive for decades.
Built specifically for the African diaspora, Yousend uses stablecoin settlement infrastructure to deliver fast, low-cost money transfers, in minutes, at competitive exchange rates.
At launch, we are live on the corridors our community uses most: UK → Nigeria and Canada → Nigeria, with additional corridors in active development. This approach completely addresses the old, slow settlement bottlenecks.
We coupled this speed with regulatory credibility earned before we processed a single live transfer, because infrastructure without it isn’t infrastructure; it’s a liability. Yousend is registered and licensed as a remittance company across its operating markets by:
- The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
- FINTRAC in Canada.
- The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Stripping Friction Out of the Core UX
Product development at Yousend combines this regulatory credibility with a clear focus on speed, reliability, and customer experience. Across our private beta, run over six months and thousands of transactions, our infrastructure successfully completed 95% of transfers in under two minutes.
But speed is only half the picture. We also designed explicitly for the 5%: the moments when a transfer takes longer than expected. When that happens, our team is notified and proactively reaches out to the customer, no waiting, no silence, no chasing. We are actively building toward fully automated real-time flagging, but the human commitment is already there from day one.
We also know that automated systems fail the customer experience when anxiety is high. That is why we offer 24/7 live human support, with no chatbots, to every single customer. We did the heavy lifting on the backend so that your transfer moves reliably, every time.
